Cosmological evolution of compact AGN at 15 GHz

Aims. We study the uniformity of the distribution of compact flat-spectrum AGN on the sky and the evolution of their relativistic jets with cosmic epoch. Methods. A complete sample of compact extragalactic radio sources at 15 GHz was recently compiled to conduct the MOJAVE program. The MOJAVE sample comprises 133 radio-loud flat-spectrum AGN with compact relativistic outflows detected at parsec...

Millimetre - VLBI Monitoring of AGN with Sub - milliarcsecond Resolution

Global millimetre VLBI allows detailed studies of the most central jet regions of AGN with unprecedent spatial resolution of a few 100–1000 Schwartzschild radii to be made. Study of these regions will help to answer the question how the highly relativistic AGN jets are launched and collimated. Since the early 1990s, bright mm-sources have been observed with global 3 mm VLBI. Here we present new...

GHz VLBI

We report on phase-referenced 23 GHz Very-Long-Baseline-Interferometry (VLBI) observations of the type IIb supernova SN 2008ax, made with the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) on 2 April 2008 (33 days after explosion). These observations resulted in a marginal detection of the supernova. The total flux density recovered from our VLBI image is 0.8±0.3 mJy (one standard deviation). As it appears, t...

VLBI imaging of extremely high redshift quasars at 5 GHz

We present very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) images of ten very high redshift (z > 3) quasars at 5 GHz. Most of the sources are resolved and show asymmetric structure. The sample includes 1428+423, the most distant radio loud quasar known to date (z = 4.72). It is barely resolved with an angular resolution of about 2.0×1.4 mas.
